Lemon Tea Tree oil mainly comprises citral and citronellal and has a more appealing “lemony” scent than citronella or lemongrass. Its main uses are in perfumery, cosmetics, and aromatherapy products.
At full strength it is recognized as a significant skin irritant, therefore Lemon Tea Tree oil should be used at low concentrations (less than 1.0%). Lemon Scented Tea Tree also contains the insect repellents Citronellal, Citronellol and Geraniol. The essential oil from L.petersonii inhibits the pathological fungi Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus.
It is a beautiful Australian native tree with a shrubby habit. The new foliage is copper/bronze colour. It has many small white flowers that decorate the tree in early summer. The leaves when crushed have a beautiful citrus scent. This pure essential oil is prepared from the leaves and stems of this Australian Native tree. The Lemon Scented Tea Tree has similar medicinal characteristics to the ordinary Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia) as an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic. Recent tests has found the bacterial killing action to be more effective against Staphylococcus auereus, Candida albicans and Aspergillas niger than teatree. The Leptospermum Petersonii Oil has a high citral content which gives it’s pleasant lemon scent. Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil can be used in aromatherapy as an immune system stimulant, particularly for colds and flu, for the digestive system (dyspepsia & colitis), and for the treatment of anxiety, stress, depression and nervous tension. Check with your health care practitioner. The leaf of this tree is commonly used to flavor boutique tea blends in particular included with Black Tea, (Camelia sinensis).
